I am inspired by organic shapes and harmonious colours. Many paintings are based on the intersection of branches and the trunk of trees. Or are of a figurative nature, representing someone jumping or dancing. In some cases I abstract a landscape with a sharp horizon line.
Encaustic wax gives me the ability to build layers of colour and scrape back to reveal the patterns left by stencils, like lace or even thrift store tablecloths. I add a final layer of transparent turquoise and carmine red. This reveals hints of the colours and shapes underneath.
